Nikolas Patentalakis
Chapter Lead

Nikolas Patentalakis has a background in Environmental Engineering and a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy and Climate Change. Nikolas has over 10 years of experience in the environmental sector and has worked in hydroelectric project design and installation, acted as liaison with regulatory bodies, facilitated stakeholder communications, developed project budgets for renewable energy projects, specified Best Available Technology (BAT) for energy efficiency projects and green building construction and works as a consultant for renewable energy projects. Nikolas' expertise is in identifying the opportunities for renewable energy project development, researching and specifying the Best Available Technology to maximize the project potential, minimize capital cost requirements and environmental footprint of the project.

Irina Sirashka
Membership Coordinator

Irina has 10 years’ experience working for the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment as a policy advisor. In the period 2006-2014, she acted as a Focal Point for the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and The Montreal Protocol on Substances That Deplete the Ozone Layer. In this role, she was part of the international negotiations on policy measures for the recovery of the ozone layer, participating in the Meetings of the Parties and the European negotiations regarding several amendments of the regulations on ozone depleting substances and fluorinated greenhouse gases.

Irina holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Sofia University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy. She is currently working towards obtaining an Environmental Management Certificate from the University of Calgary. Irina has a great passion for the environment and would like to further her career in the environmental field.

Apart from her studies, Irina tirelessly volunteers time and efforts serving a variety of non-profit and cultural organizations. She sits on the Parents’ Board of the Bulgarian Sunday School, where she oversees the financial and organizational performance of the school. She is also part of the Bulgarian folklore dancing group “Haide na horoto” where, through the dances, she is promoting the beauty and the magic of the Bulgarian folklore and culture. In addition, being a newcomer to Canada, Irina understands the importance of giving back to the community; therefore, she donates time by translating for Calgary Immigrants Services. In her free time, Irina enjoys traveling and exploring new places and cultures with her young family.

Joanna Clarke

Graduating with a BSc. Recreation / B. Management (Concentration in Environmental Studies) from Dalhousie University, Joanna has a multi-facited background in both environmental sustainability and sport management. She has been heavily involved in conservation initiatives - notably being a Co-Founder and Board Member of Shark Fin Free Calgary, as well as worked in environmental business development capacities (namely social media and marketing). With the intention of being a social change leader, Joanna is currently working on fusing her passions for environmental conservation and sustainability - through education, outreach and advocacy, within the avenues of sport, conservation and conscious buying. She's known for being contagiously passionate, and forever eager to learn about the things affecting our global environment - from fault-lines to pipelines. When she's not trying to cook up her next sustainability idea, you can find her practicing yoga, skiing, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, baking or hanging out in one of Calgary's great local cafe's ... and likely planning her next road trip to explore the wilderness.

Delilah recently graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of Calgary and is currently exploring: community place making through YYC Free Market, sustainable systems at CEP events, communication optimization with her current role and... popcorn toppings!

Izabella Stachura

Izabella graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland with bachelor's and Master's degree in Environmental Engineering. She was working in this engineering sector in Poland and in the United Kingdom specializing in water and wastewater projects: pump stations and reservoirs, linear projects, lift stations and water treatment plants. Nowadays she is combining the love for the environment with getting children outdoors, while exploring beautiful Canada. Actively involved in activities improving children understanding of nature and the environment around us. She is focused on promotion of early child development non-profit coalition. Izabella is also working on distributing the knowledge and research results regarding the environmental issues via social media channels.
