About The Event

Don't miss our November speaker event 'Sustainable Holidays' to learn how to make the holidays more environmentally-friendly. We'll have special guests from the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services, to discuss the main impacts that the holiday season has on our environment as well as tips and tricks on how to reduce them. Plastic-Free YYC will also join us to share some great ideas in the areas of gift-giving and wrapping. If you want to learn how to host, cook and be merry whilst still being eco-friendly - we'll also have a self-taught chef and passionate supporter of eating seasonally, sustainably and locally!

See you there!

Meet your speakers:

Andrea Johancsik - Public Program Coordinator: City of Calgary Waste and Recycling Services

Andrea joins us from the City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services where she works as a Public Program Coordinator with a focus on finding solutions to divert and reduce residential waste. Her background in environmental science from Queen’s University moved her to find work in natural & cultural interpretation, conservation, and environmental outreach & education.

Wade Sirois - Self-taught chef, owner, and creative director: Infuse Catering and Forage in Marda Loop

He extensively sources local and sustainable ingredients from over 40 Alberta producers, farmers, and ranchers for his menus. He is a passionate supporter of eating seasonally, sustainably, and locally and is a strong advocate for sustainable agriculture. Wade represented Canadian chefs at Slow Food’s Terra Madre conference in 2006 and 2008 and was the contributing chef for Alberta at the 2010 Canadian Chef Congress. Wade has worked in Calgary’s catering scene for over 27 years and his business Infuse Catering is in its 18th year of operation.
