About The Event

Energy Storage is an emerging technology that will alter the way we generate, transmit, and consume electricity. Did you know there are at least 13 different applications for energy storage? From EVs, to power backup, to helping maintain the reliability of our electricity grids, energy storage will impact our lives in many different ways in the coming years and decades. Join us for a great evening of discussion focused on energy storage, its uses, and what the future holds for this exciting technology. Our keynote speaker will be Dan Chapman, a cleantech engineer who currently supports energy storage development across Canada.

Join CEP Calgary for our monthly speaker series - October’s event is on energy storage. Featuring speaker Dan Chapman and Robert Stewart.

Dan is currently with NRStor, a leading energy storage provider in Alberta. Previously, Dan was with TransAlta, regarded as their corporate expert in emerging renewable energy technologies and advised senior management regarding disruptive technologies.

Robert has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. His career ambition is to develop and implement energy storage technologies to support renewable energy generation integration.

See full bio on Dan Chapman & Dr Robert Stewart below (trust us, you want to check this out, it’s very impressive.)

Dan Chapman:

Dan Chapman is focused on bringing energy storage solutions to Alberta through his efforts with NRStor, a leading energy storage solutions provider. In addition to Alberta advocacy and business development efforts, he is currently managing microgrid projects combining renewables and storage to decrease diesel-fired generation in remote northern communities.

While working for TransAlta, Dan was regarded as their corporate expert in emerging renewable energy technologies and advised senior management regarding disruptive technologies. Dan drove initiatives leading to TransAlta's entrance into solar via a 21 MW portfolio acquisition. He also originated and managed development of the 10 MW Alberta wind-sited Tesla battery project, winning $11 million of CCEMC funding toward the initiative. While employed at ENMAX, Dan gained experience with hydroelectric and wind plant operations and project management.

Dan has become increasingly involved in Calgary's innovation community through Innovate Calgary's Greentech Mentor program and will continue to work with government and community stakeholders to assess and promote energy storage solutions. He has served as an energy storage expert panelist at numerous conferences, including the Energy Storage Canada Conference, the Alberta and Saskatchewan Renewable Energy Summit, IPPSA, Alberta Power Symposium, and Carbon Management Canada.

Dr Robert Stewart

Dr. Stewart has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. His career ambition is to develop and implement energy storage technologies to support renewable energy generation integration. Robert's main focus at RMP is the development of energy storage opportunities with specific focus on Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES). His PhD focused on the development of an experimental apparatus for studying vibrating miscible fluids in porous media as it specifically relates to solvent based bitumen production. He has a background in technical support for oil and gas machinery including industrial gas turbines with a focus on performance monitoring and risk based maintenance strategies.
